Paul Ekman
“Most lies succeed because no one goes through the work to figure out how to catch them”
-Dr. Paul Ekman
Dr. Paul Ekman, is one of the most prominent researchers linking expression and nonverbal communication today. He has written several books and has created the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) to help others understand and recognize facial expressions. One of Ekman's prime areas of research has been micro-expression, the involuntary facial expressions lasting 1/25 of a second.
Beyond his research, Ekman has taken a role in teaching others in a hands on way. With his part in the creation of FACS he has spoken to individuals in the Secret Service and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to improve on their skills. His research and tools have even been used by Pixar in helping them create more lifelike animations. Along with animated entertainment, Ekman had worked with writers and producers of the show Lie to Me, a FOX show that was loosely based on Ekman and his work with microexpression.
